RX8FRANCE : Kart monté avec un moteur Wankel
Karting1 Tests Aixro XR50 Wankel Kart Engine, and Oh God - it's AWESOME!!!
Reliability
The Aixro XR50 is exceptionally reliable due to the nature of wankel engine design (see below). The engine was initially designed for the use in unmanned aerial vehicles thus reliability has been a key characteristic of this engine since inception. It is this reliability that is at the heart of the Aixro XR50.
The engine will last around 200 hours between rebuilds. Rebuilds are simple too, consisting of the replacement of the main bearing and rotor tips for £250 inc VAT.
Wankel Wizardry
The Aixro XR50 is a unique kart engine in the way that it is neither a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke. It is based upon the Wankel rotary engine principle which does away with the ups and downs of the traditional piston. Instead the engine consists of an essentially triangular rotor inside a specially shaped housing.
During each full rotation of the shaft one of the three chambers on the rotor is ignited. As all the moving mass is balanced, this engine layout is free from vibration, extremely powerful, compact in size and produces low emissions.
